Asterisk Talley has come close before. The 17-year-old from California was the runner-up at the Augusta National Women’s Amateur, close enough to a major stage to know what it felt like to leave without the trophy. On Sunday at The Honors Course in Ooltewah, Tennessee, there was no such ambiguity. She beat Japan’s Anna Iwanaga 8 and 6 in the final of the U.S. Women’s Amateur, closing the match out with six holes still to play and picking up her second USGA title before she has even finished high school.
