They live in the gap between fairway woods and long irons, and they do so by quietly solving a problem that the rest of the set cannot. A good hybrid hits higher than a long iron, flies further than a mid-iron, lands softer than a fairway wood, and is considerably more forgiving than any of them. The only surprise is that it took the industry until the early 2000s to properly commit to the category.</p>
